All about Retail Marketing

I work within Retail Marketing for HBOS and I am currently working within the Online Team as a campaign manager. The retail Online team works on the two main retail websites Halifax and Bank of Scotland.

One of our major objectives for 2008 and 2009 is to improve the position of the two retail websites in search engine rankings. So my day to day job involves carrying out a number of initiatives to help improve our ranking positions. We work very closely with our agencies on both paid and natural search and a big part of our roles is to think of new ideas and ways of keeping our websites performing well.

Our team is also responsible for all the promotions campaigns which appear across the websites. An example of a campaign which is currently being promoted upon can be seen at : http://www.halifax.co.uk/savings/savingshome.asp

The product teams have objectives to promote their chosen products and so we create online banners and images to use across our websites.

As Online is a dynamic and constantly changing medium, my job tends to be rather fast paced and interesting. We are always looking for new ways to remain competitive in the marketplace, so it is never dull or boring!!

Currently graduates within marketing tend to carry out 3 placements, each lasting for around 8 months. There are a number of areas across marketing in which graduates have the opportunity to work – I started off in Customer Insights which is primarily a research role and I am hoping to finish in a communications role by the end of my 2 years on the scheme.

Keep checking my blog regularly to hear the latest news from marketing!!!
